Banana Republican Newt Gingrich Announces Move To La-La Land

Posted by Warm Southern Breeze on Wednesday, December 23, 2020

Newt Gingrich, Georgia’s original nutty buddy, all-around hypocrite, liar, and one of the original Banana Republicans, recently used his quill to conjure up an OpEd to the right-wing newspaper Washington Times in which he falsely claimed in part that, “The entire elite liberal media lied about the timeline of the COVID-19 vaccine. They blamed President Trump for the global pandemic even as he did literally everything top scientists instructed. In multiple debates, the moderators outright stated that he was lying about the U.S. having a vaccine before the end of the year (note Vice President Mike Pence received it this week). If Americans had known the pandemic was almost over, that too was likely the difference in the election.”

FACT: Regarding “the timeline of the COVID-19 vaccine,” Moderna had a coronavirus vaccine designed January 13, 2020, TWO DAYS after the genome was published internationally online.

Moderna developed their vaccine only two days after the genetic sequence had been publicized internationally by Chinese researcher Professor Dr. Yong-Zhen Zhangm Ph.D. His humanitarian act of scientific generosity resulted in him being temporarily forced out of his lab.

Moderna’s vaccine design only took one weekend to develop at their Massachusetts facilities.

In fact, Moderna had completed development of their COVID-19 vaccine mRNA-1273 before the Chinese government had acknowledged the disease was transmitted by human-to-human means, and more than a week before the first confirmed coronavirus case in the United States – January 21.

And by the time the first American coronavirus death was reported a month later, on February 29, Moderna’s mRNA-1273 coronavirus vaccine had already been manufactured and shipped to the National Institutes of Health to begin its Phase I clinical trial.

All of that was long before the President had made any announcement about his “Operation Warp Speed,” the public-private partnership to develop a coronavirus vaccine, and yet even 2 months before Bloomberg News reported on April 29 that such a plan was in the works.

Gingrich then falsely claims that, “The entire elite liberal media lied about the timeline of the COVID-19 vaccine. They blamed President Trump for the global pandemic even as he did literally everything top scientists instructed.”

FACT: Trump deliberately downplayed the severity of the coronavirus. He also knew FROM THE OUTSET that the novel coronavirus was lethal. Veteran and award-winning journalist Bob Woodward conducted several interviews over many months with Trump in which Trump admitted being briefed on the danger the virus posed, and its lethality, and how he deliberately downplayed its dangers.

“And – we’re – we have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s — going to be just fine.”
––Trump to CNBC Squawk Box host Joe Kernan at World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, January 22

“We only have five people. Hopefully, everything’s going to be great. They have somewhat of a problem, but hopefully, it’s all going to be great. But we’re working with China, just so you know, and other countries very, very closely. So it doesn’t get out of hand. But it’s, you know, it’s something that we have to be very, very careful with, right? We have to be very careful.”

“You just breathe the air and that’s how it’s passed. And so that’s a very tricky one. That’s a very delicate one. It’s also more deadly than even your strenuous flus. This is deadly stuff.”
– Trump to veteran reporter Bob Woodward in a February 7, 2020 phone call interview about the coronavirus

“I wanted to always play it down. I still like playing it down, because I don’t want to create a panic.”
– Trump in a March 19, 2020 phone interview with Bob Woodward about the coronavirus

Woodward spoke with Mary Louise Kelly, host of NPR’s All Things Considered news program, who asked him about the matter, and he said that in his February interview with Trump, he thought Trump was referring to the virus in China, and told her that, “I … believed he was talking about the virus in China, because he had talked to Chinese President Xi [Jinping] the night before.”

And, of course, there’s the now-infamous, and highly mocked press conference in which Dr. Deborah Birx, MD, attended in which Trump said in part that,

“And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in a minute. One minute. And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning. Because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs. So it would be interesting to check that. So, that, you’re going to have to use medical doctors with. But it sounds — it sounds interesting to me.

“So we’ll see. But the whole concept of the light, the way it kills it in one minute, that’s — that’s pretty powerful.”

Her mocking pantomime of Trump’s comments in that briefing later made Sara Cooper famous.

As well, on numerous occasions Trump promoted dangerous and unproven treatments for COVID-19 such as hydroxychloroquine, Regeneron’s monoclonal antibodies, Remdesivir, Dexamethasone, Oleandrin, and others.

On numerous occasions, Trump also made remarks openly discrediting Dr. Anthony Fauci, MD.

Trump also pushed for rapid reopening of schools and businesses, despite scientist’s urging for caution.

As well, Trump mocked accepted guidelines for prevention of transmission of COVID-19 by wearing masks and using social distancing.

And then, to top it all off, in October, he attempted to stoke fear among his ignorant base of supporters by “warning” that his political opponent, then-Democratic Presidential Candidate Joe Biden “will listen to the scientists.”

Of course, most anyone who pays attention to political theater, knows that the Banana Republicans’ stock in trade is fear-mongering, which is among the most successful motivational techniques known. And they use it consistently, often with great success.
