Divining Jesus’ Humanity: Was He fully human? What does that mean?
Posted by Warm Southern Breeze on Sunday, May 24, 2015
So one of these nights and about twelve o’clock
This old world’s going to reel and rock
Saints will tremble and cry for pain
For the Lord’s gonna come in His heavenly airplane
If God had a name, what would it be?
And would you call it to His face,
If you were faced with Him in all His glory?
What would you ask if you had just one question?
You’re probably not like me.
You’ve probably never given a second thought to the holiness of the Almighty.
You’ve probably never struggled with Jesus Christ’s humanity.
You’ve probably never given a second thought to the fact that His shit stunk just like yours.
You’ve probably never given a moments thought to the fact that He pooped His diapers like your kids.
You’ve probably never imagined that, like every normal male the world over, He was born with an erection.
You’ve probably never struggled with the fact that, like every normal male the world over, He had nocturnal emissions, aka “wet dreams.”
You’ve probably never struggled to wrap your mind around the fact that, being raised as the son of a carpenter, he very likely hit His thumb several times with a hammer, and had no good words to say about the experience.
You’ve probably never imagined the smell of stinking sweat that poured out from the pores of every inch of His dirty flesh as He labored in the hot Middle Eastern sun, day in, day out.
You’ve probably never had any problem with His smelly farts, burps, or that He needed sleep.
No, you’ve probably had no trouble at all accepting the full humanity of Jesus Christ.
What if God was one of us?
Just a slob like one of us?
Just a stranger on the bus
Trying to make His way home?
If God had a face, what would it look like?
And would you want to see
If seeing meant that you would have to believe
In things like Heaven and in Jesus and the saints
And all the prophets?
No, you’re probably not like me at all.
You have it all figured out.
You completely and fully comprehend and understand His humanity.
And, you probably did that long before you fully comprehended and understood His divinity.
See, your god probably isn’t human like mine.
I have no problem with His divine nature.
It’s been His humanity that gives me fits.
I’m glad you got that shit all figured out.
‘Cause I sure as Hell don’t.
I have a rough & tumble God.
I argue with Him.
Fight with Him… just like another bastard did.
So, if you’re up for a fight, bring it on.
What if God was one of us,
Just a slob like one of us,
Just a stranger on the bus
Trying to make His way home?
