Huntsville man jumps out of car after police chase, leaves behind cocaine

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama — Huntsville police say a man jumped out of his car this morning during a police chase, but he left something behind — a bag of cocaine and other evidence to indicate who he was.

Police say around 3:45 a.m. officers observed a gold car driving over the speed limit heading north on Jordan Lane. The officer attempted to make a traffic stop, but the man increased his speed and turned on Brandon Town Road trying to elude police, police said.

At some point the driver jumped out of his car and took off on foot, leaving the bag of cocaine behind, police said. He is a male in his early 20s and around 145 pounds, police said. When the man is arrested he will be charged with possession of a controlled substance and two attempts to elude police.

The case remains under investigation.
