The caption at the bottom of the image, which is in Latin, is translated as: “When you become heaps, a sort of man, why do not you reject mortal things; Death is a common obligation to all fate. “What does it profit a man if hurt, one hundred centuries; When we die we think life has passed like the wind.” The banner is translated as: For you know neither day, nor the hour at” and cites the reference from the Biblical book of Matthew, chapter 25 verse 13 which states “Therefore watch, for you do not know the day, nor the hour.” The top translates as “thou come hither, anyone who in the world is visible to the whole.”
6,002.
That’s how many more COVID-19 deaths we’ll need in America before we equal the number of American deaths in WWI – 116,516.
Only 6,002 more to go.
Today, we started off with 109,846 COVID-19 deaths in America.
Tonight, we finish with 110,514.
That’s a difference of 668, or a 0.6081% increase, in the stretch of a 12-hour period.
If we continue at that rate, we’ll be there, and quite possibly surpass the mark, in 9 days, on June 16.
That’s just a mere 216 hours from now.
And, it’s but a Read the rest of this entry »

AUBURN, Ala. — Former Auburn tight end Philip Lutzenkirchen died in a wreck early Sunday morning outside of LaGrange, Ga.
He was 23.
Lutzenkirchen’s fatal accident occurred in Troup County, just southeast of LaGrange, at approximately 3:06 a.m. Sunday morning, according to Master Trooper B.N. Talley of the Georgia State Patrol, who responded to the scene.
“It happened at the intersection of Upper Big Springs Road and Lower Big Springs Road,” Talley said. “The vehicle was a 2006 Chevy Tahoe and the driver missed a stop sign at the intersection of those two roads, which is more or less a ‘T-intersection.’ They traveled through the intersection off into a churchyard. They were out of control for about 450 feet.”

At that point, Talley said, the vehicle overturned, ejecting three of the four passengers.
“Philip was one of them,” Talley said,” and he was killed at the scene.”
The driver of the vehicle, Joseph Davis, was also killed.
Lutzenkirchen, who was seated behind Davis, was not wearing his seat belt. Talley said they “are still looking into” how fast the vehicle was traveling when it ran through the stop sign.
Updates to come.

Auburn great Philip Lutzenkirchen killed in car accident
Former Auburn star Philip Lutzenkirchen has died in a car accident Sunday morning, AL.com has confirmed.
According to the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer, the accident occurred at 3:06 a.m. in Troup County outside of LaGrange, Ga.
“The vehicle was a 2006 Chevy Tahoe and the driver missed a stop sign at the intersection of those two roads, which is more or less a ‘T-intersection,'” said Master Trooper B.N. Talley of the Georgia State Patrol. “They traveled through the intersection off into a churchyard. They were out of control for about 450 feet.”
According to Talley, the vehicle then overturned and ejected three of the four passengers, including Lutzenkirchen, who was killed at the scene.
The 23-year-old from Marietta, Ga., was one of the most popular Auburn players in recent history. He ranks first in touchdowns by a tight end in school history with 14 from 2009 to 2012.
Lutzenkirchen saw his collegiate career end after suffering a major hip injury against Ole Miss in 2012. He signed a free agent contract with the St. Louis in April 2013, but was released four months later due to the lingering injury that eventually required surgery. After hanging up the cleats, Lutzenkirchen had been working at a wealth management company in Montgomery and volunteering with the football team at St. James School in Montgomery. St. James head coach Jimmy Perry confirmed the news of his death with AL.com.
Several of Lutzenkirchen’s coaches, teammates and fans have shared their condolences after hearing the news.

By now, perhaps you’ve heard the tragic news that Lac-Mégantic – a small town with a population of 6000 in the Canadian province of Quebec, 155 miles (250km) from Montreal – has been devastated by a petrochemical explosion & fire subsequent to a train derailment in that town. Thirteen people are confirmed dead, and 50 are missing… their bodies possibly vaporized by the intense heat of the 72-car blast.
According to officials, some of whom remain unnamed, the train’s engineer was taking his required sleep break in a nearby motel, when, again, according to authorities, the train’s brakes “failed,” which then caused the train to begin rolling unabated for nearly 7 miles (11km) before crashing & burning.
In a related news item this morning, Edward Burkhardt, Chairman of the Board of Rail World Inc., and Chairman of the Montreal, Maine & Atlantic Railway – the parent company of the railroad firm which owns the train – said Read the rest of this entry »

While it was meant all in harmless fun, I sincerely doubt that the individual’s response – to commit suicide – was anything other than an inappropriate response to jesting in good-hearted intent.
It is indeed tragic that the nurse committed suicide.
Perhaps there were other underlying issues, or an inability to cope that predicated her distressing response.
One simply cannot hold others responsible for everything. As tragic as this story is, one must accept responsibility for one’s own actions.

Prank Call Seeking Royal Family Secrets Takes Horrifying Turn
LONDON — As pranks go, this one appeared outrageous and obnoxious rather than malicious: after convincing a hospital nurse who answered the phone this week that they were Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles, two Australian radio hosts then tricked another nurse into disclosing medical information about the pregnant Duchess of Cambridge, who had been admitted with acute morning sickness.
The call was broadcast on Australia radio; then it went out around the world.
But the stunt took a horrific and unexpected turn on Friday, when the nurse who answered the call, 46-year-old Jacintha Saldanha, was found dead, an apparent suicide.
The Metropolitan Police would not release details of the death, except to say that they had received a call reporting that there was an unconscious woman at Weymouth Street, in central London, and two ambulance crews had arrived to find Mrs. Saldanha already dead. A police spokesman said they were not treating the death as suspicious.
It was unclear what exactly had happened since the prank itself to make Mrs. Saldanha, who was reportedly married and had two children, take her life. King Edward VII’s Hospital, where she worked, said it had not disciplined her, but rather had been “supporting her during this difficult time.” Nor, apparently, had the royal family raised a fuss with the hospital, an exclusive private institution that has long been the hospital of choice for Britain’s royals.
“At no point did the palace complain to the hospital about the incident,” a spokesman for St. James’s Palace said. “On the contrary, we offered our full and heartfelt support to the nurses involved and the hospital staff at all times.”
The turn of events was seen as so shocking that it provoked a response from even the prime minister of Australia, Julia Gillard, who called it “a terrible tragedy.”
Whatever the immediate impetus for Mrs. Saldanha’s death, the episode was Read the rest of this entry »

There are so many hilarious headlines that could be written.
What an utter idiot.
The Secret Service can protect him from others, but they can’t protect Mitt from his own political suicide.
More signs of President Obama’s re-election.

Romney’s statement perfectly undiplomatic
Mitt Romney makes remarks on the attack on the US consulate in Libya (Reuters)September 12,
There are moments that can indelibly brand a politician and Mitt Romney may just have met his.

U.S. Republican presidential nominee and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney makes remarks on the attack on the U.S. consulate in Libya, in Jacksonville, Florida September 12, 2012. REUTERS/Jim Young (UNITED STATES – Tags: POLITICS ELECTIONS)
The alacrity – and brittle certainty – with which the Republican nominee responded to the violence against US diplomats on Tuesday night offers a snapshot of why his candidacy has failed to attract true believers. On Wednesday morning, Hillary Clinton read out a sombre statement condemning the killing of Chris Stevens, the US ambassador to Libya, and three other Americans. Forty minutes later, Barack Obama followed suit. Both focused on Mr Stevens’ tragic death.
In between Mr Romney squeezed in an openly political press conference in which he called the Obama administration’s response “disgraceful” and said it “should never apologise for America.” His condolences were brief and dutiful. The exercise was based on the strained allegation that Mr Obama had sought to mollify the protestors in Egypt (the US embassy in Cairo issued a statement that had not been approved by the White House).
In a race between two more evenly matched candidates, Tuesday night’s significance would have been to inject a foreign policy dimension into an almost wholly domestic campaign. That may be one outcome. But Mr Romney has Read the rest of this entry »

BIG OIL companies – in this instance and most notably BP – are quick to “remind” their consuming public that they are the “good guys” that always wear white and that they our “knight in shining armor coming to your emotional rescue.”
However, having never been one to believe in conspiracy theory, or genuine collusion, yet in all honesty, one must acknowledge that BIG OIL has significant self interest called stock held by Wall Street shareholders. Those are the masters to whom they are loyal… NOT the American people.
Scientist finds Gulf bottom still oily, dead

While in junior and high school, I would peruse my parents’ collection of books, many of which were college texts from their undergraduate days at Auburn University, which was then called Alabama Polytechnic Institute.
As many young men may, I dreamt of love, perhaps more specifically, of romance. And what is romance? Indeed, what is romance – especially to a young boy? Read the rest of this entry »
