How accurate, or true are Right Wing memes?
Regardless of one’s political beliefs, party affiliation, or ideological inclination, it’s always good to consider the truth of statements in memes that – like flotsam and jetsam – are dispersed throughout the Internet… particularly upon Social Media sites such as FaceBook, and Twitter. And unfortunately, in many cases, they are the veritable garbage, the effluent detritus of communication.
So… let’s examine some of the argument in the meme seen here, and see if it still holds water.
Government has necessary services, and provides the same.
Consider road construction as one example.
To create & build roads (which themselves increase opportunity) government must purchase things – raw materials, and manpower, among them.
Now… exactly where is any “government factory” for that, eh?
That’s correct – there is NONE.
EVERYTHING “we the people” by and through our government – at ALL LEVELS, Federal, State, and Local – purchase comes from the Private Sector!
EVERYTHING!
Consider also what may be the greatest example of Read the rest of this entry »

The iPhone is a simple, though powerful tool. It’s ease of operation often belies the sophisticated mathematical and computer algorithms which undergird it’s operations. The integrated movie and still camera is one of the iPhone’s highlights, and Apple, Inc. makes every opportunity to improve the images the camera produces.
Quite honestly, the iPhone is perhaps my favorite creative imaging tool… as you may likely attest, if you’ve been following my photo stream for any time. There are very few things the iPhone can do that my Nikon DSLR cannot. There are a few features on the iPhone which the Nikon does not have, and vice versa. One is the Nikon’s ability to create RAW images, whereas the iPhone creates only JPEG images. By the same token, the iPhone has a “Burst” mode, whereas the Nikon does not. And I’ve been able to obtain images with my iPhone that my Nikon could never get, such as bluebird hatchlings in their nest box.
The diminutive size of the iPhone belies it’s strength, and the ubiquitous modern smartphone with integrated camera is now so commonplace that Read the rest of this entry »

Do Animals…
Things like this – Cat LOL videos, stories of animals having friendships, and other similarly expressive photos & stories (such as the depressed goat which was separated from, then was reunited with it’s longtime donkey companion) – are quite fascinating.
The reason why should be self-evident. Which is, that we find them humorous or entertaining because we ascribe human traits to animals.
From childhood, I never considered the Read the rest of this entry »

An alternate title for this entry might be: Walnuts, Pies, Strippers & Experts
Of course, that makes no sense. And for some, it makes neither cents, nor dollars.
But never you mind.
Pie and ice cream.
Who doesn’t like it?
Sounds dee-lish… right?
Any kind of pie, and almost any kind of ice cream. I say “any kind” with a caveat. Any kind EXCEPT Neapolitan. That’s horrid. Truly horrid. Whoever imagined the idea of “Neapolitan” ice cream is probably now suffering eternal punishment – a special torture reserved exclusively for the damned.
And, perhaps somebody should tell those folks.
I mean to refer to the folks that came up with a name like “Georgia Walnut Pie.”
Somebody should tell those folks that… Read the rest of this entry »

Examine the photo below, and the question posed in it.
And then, ponder my composed response below it.

Herman Cain, ever the GOP’s insane pizza presidential candidate, has yet again demonstrated his lunacy.
Naw… give ’em pizza!
But, on a slightly more serious note… that question is patently ludicrous and absurd upon it’s face. It’s akin to a Straw Man Fallacy.
Why?
Amidst a crowd of people, Read the rest of this entry »

Alabama… what a fouled up, messed up, idiotic state.
Just follow the stink of money, and you’ll find the state’s politicians and business leaders copulating together in the filth of that slop trough.
Bunch of God damned bastards… every God damned one of ’em ought’a go straight to Hell.

Proposed Alabama vet board rule could close spay/neuter clinics
Published: Thursday, September 27, 2012, 10:40 PM Updated: Friday, September 28, 2012, 7:48 AM

Dr. Desiree Mason checks on a dog after surgery at the Alabama Spay/Neuter Clinic on Crestwood Boulevard. The State Veterinary Board is considering new regulations that could cause the nonprofit clinic others like it in the state that spay and neuter to shut down. The board is considering whether to change the rules which state that all the equipment in clinics must be owned by a vet. (Tamika Moore/The Birmingham News)
BIRMINGHAM, Alabama — Michelle Pierce waited Thursday at the Alabama Spay/Neuter clinic to pick up Mystery, the stray calico cat named after she mysteriously waltzed through Pierce’s dog door one evening, and the three kittens — Tigger, Chelssey and Zure — that came along with her.
“I think it’s better to go ahead and get them fixed even if I found them a home … . They multiply like rabbits,” Pierce said.
As the cats, still drunk from anesthesia, recovered in a dog crate, Pierce paid a total of $48 for having them fixed — a break over the clinic’s already low rates because she qualified for assistance.
Pierce said she wouldn’t have been able to afford the prices at a full-service veterinary clinic.
“I would have had to take them to the Humane Society. This place is a life-saver for animals and for folks with low income,” Pierce said.
Operators of the nonprofit spay/neuter clinics say Read the rest of this entry »

Readers may already know of the legend of an irony of naming Greenland “Greenland,” especially since much of that nation is covered by ice or snow. On the other hand, their nearest national neighbor, Iceland, is green. In fact, some say Iceland’s verdancy is exceeded only the Emerald Isle (that’d be Ireland).
Again, Greenland is snowy/icy, while Iceland is green.
But, thanks to that great myth called “global warming,” Greenland may become green!
It seems the mythical fallacy of “global warming” is causing ice to melt in Greenland.
Yeah.
Must be the hot air from the Great Debate over whether or not “Global Warming” is merely a periodic, or even occasional occurrence, or if it is a cyclical, if not long-term trend.
So, here’s that Republican myth again…
You know it, the one that says “there is no global warming.”

Extent of surface melt over Greenland’s ice sheet on July 8 (left) and July 12 (right). Measurements from three satellites showed that on July 8, about 40 percent of the ice sheet had undergone thawing at or near the surface. In just a few days, the melting had dramatically accelerated and an estimated 97 percent of the ice sheet surface had thawed by July 12. In the image, the areas classified as “probable melt” (light pink) correspond to those sites where at least one satellite detected surface melting. The areas classified as “melt” (dark pink) correspond to sites where two or three satellites detected surface melting. The satellites are measuring different physical properties at different scales and are passing over Greenland at different times. As a whole, they provide a picture of an extreme melt event about which scientists are very confident.

Yeah… it’s all a myth.
It’s a make-believe fairy tale.
There’s really no such thing as “Global Warming.”
Here.
Have another drink of the “More Tax Cuts with More Military Spending” Kook-Aid.
Then, put your head back into the sand.
You’ll be okay.
Yeah… see, all this is made up.
It’s all Hollywood Special Effects & Photoshop.
Just like the myth that Americans landed on the moon.
Keep it tuned to Faux News!
Just click your heels three times and you’ll be back in Kansas!

For several days this month, Greenland’s surface ice cover melted over a larger area than at any time in more than 30 years of satellite observations. Nearly the entire ice cover of Greenland, Read the rest of this entry »

In the previous iPhone photography Tips & Tricks entry, I shared instructions and examples on how to use the iPhone‘s 5x zoom.
In this entry, you’ll see actual screenshots of the zoom adjustments, along with another useful built-in photography help.

Screenshot of the activated built-in Zoom feature on the iPhone. The photo's a bit fuzzy, because it's tough to get a screenshot quickly while maintaining a composition!
Recall that the iPhone’s zoom feature may be accessed two ways: 1.) by a Read the rest of this entry »

Do you use an Apple iPhone?
Chances are, you do.
How would I know, and why?
Quite simply, not only does the Apple iPhone continue to dominate the smartphone market with innovations, but worldwide and domestic sales of the smartphone indicate market share dominance. In other words, Apple is the “worldwide number one single manufacturer of smartphones by revenue, profit, and volume.” Tom Kang, Director at Strategy Analytics, reported that in 2010 alone, Apple shipped over 100 million smartphones.
But you didn’t necessarily want to read a marketing and sales report – right?
On to the iPhone tips and tricks.
The iPhone’s integrated camera has the ability to zoom up to 5x.

By now, if you’re not aware of Flickr… God help you!
All seriousness aside, of course, Flickr is – as they describe it – is “almost certainly the best online photo management and sharing application in the world.”

Image via CrunchBase
I agree.
While I am familiar with Google – it is so much more than a search engine – and their Picassa photo management service, I have chosen to stay with Flickr for several reasons… not the least of which is that I have found it more hospitable to the protection of photographers’ copyrights.
While it’s not a perfect tool (find one that is!), I have found it much better than Read the rest of this entry »
