How out of touch with reality is the GOP?
Posted by Warm Southern Breeze on Saturday, March 23, 2013
The GOP recently acknowledged that, among other aspects of their party’s alienation from the American mainstream, they need to modify and change not merely their image, but their appeal to Hispanics, which have largely voted for Democratic candidates.
The irony of their acknowledgment is that they want to do the very thing they’ve demonstrated why and how they’ve alienated themselves from the American mainstream… hire a Mexican to do their work.
As reported in VOXXI, by Grace Flores-Hughes on March 19, 2013, “The Republican National Committee plans to hire political directors from the Hispanic, Asian, African American communities as well as from women’s groups.”

The numbers prove it: The GOP is estranged from America
By Andrew Kohut, Published: March 22
Andrew Kohut is the founding director and former president of the Pew Research Center. He served as president of the Gallup Organization from 1979 to 1989.
In my decades of polling, I recall only one moment when a party had been driven as far from the center as the Republican Party has been today.
The outsize influence of hard-line elements in the party base is doing to the GOP what supporters of Read the rest of this entry »

Report: Illegal immigration now zero sum game
Posted by Warm Southern Breeze on Tuesday, April 24, 2012
The original title was “Illegal immigration ceases.”
To which I began this entry with “Okay, maybe not.”
But, according to the findings made in this independent report, it’s pretty near zero, if not already in the negative numbers.
And, for the fascist, racist right-wing legislators in the states of Alabama & Arizona, that’s good news!
Why?
That means they can stop collaborating with Kris Kobach to write racist legislation, and start working on genuinely serious problems!
Of course, this de-escalation from a “crisis” may actually show them up for what they are: Clueless Incompetent Boobs.
BTW… this was also reported on the NPR afternoon news program “All Things Considered.”

Net Migration from Mexico Falls to Zero—and Perhaps Less
by Jeffrey Passel, D’Vera Cohn and Ana Gonzalez-Barrera
The largest wave of immigration in history from a single country to the United States has come to a standstill. After four decades that brought 12 million current immigrants—more than half of whom came illegally—the net migration flow from Mexico to the United States has stopped—and may have reversed, according to a new analysis by the Pew Hispanic Center of multiple government data sets from both countries.
The standstill appears to be the result of many factors, including the weakened U.S. job and housing construction markets, heightened border enforcement, a rise in deportations, the growing dangers associated with illegal border crossings, the long-term decline in Mexico’s birth rates and changing economic conditions in Mexico.
The report is based on the Center’s analysis of data from five different Mexican government sources and four U.S. government sources. Read the rest of this entry »

How to: Prepare for a Successful Marriage
Posted by Warm Southern Breeze on Monday, April 16, 2012
To put yourself on a more sure foundation for establishing a successful marriage, just don’t do it.
Cohabit, that is.
Human nature being what it is, we don’t often like being told not to do things.
We take particular delight in going against the grain. The reasons why are myriad. And yet, at times, there have been valid reasons why, or why we should not to do things, that – for one reason or another – have not been communicated effectively, if at all.
One area in which ineffective communication has occurred is pre-marital relationships.
Sure, there are various colloquialisms for the notion and practice of cohabiting – such as “why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free,” “try before you buy,” and others – some of which many of us have heard for years. What’s interesting to note, is that we’re now discovering, is that, well… they were right.
But again, the problem with those aphorisms, no matter how true they may be, is that they presume a certain level of understanding. They presume communication has occurred, and that the understanding and rationale of the question ‘why’ is present.
As we’re finding out, the understanding and rationale of the question ‘why’ is absent, which also means that a certain level of understanding is absent, which therefore means that the foundation for the truth of the aphorism is entirely absent.
Read on to learn more about the fascinating findings.

The Downside of Cohabiting Before Marriage
By MEG JAY April 14, 2012
AT 32, one of my clients (I’ll call her Jennifer) had a lavish wine-country wedding. By then, Jennifer and her boyfriend had lived together for more than four years. The event was attended by the couple’s friends, families and two dogs.
When Jennifer started therapy with me less than a year later, she was looking for a divorce lawyer. “I spent more time planning my wedding than I spent happily married,” she sobbed. Most disheartening to Jennifer was that she’d tried to do everything right. “My parents got married young so, of course, they got divorced. We lived together! How did this happen?”
Cohabitation in the United States has increased by more than 1,500 percent in the past half century. In 1960, about 450,000 unmarried couples lived together. Now the number is more than 7.5 million. The majority of young adults in their 20s will live with a romantic partner at least once, and more than half of all marriages will be preceded by cohabitation. This shift has been attributed to Read the rest of this entry »
