The Society of Jesus founded by Saint Ignatius of Loyola has served the church for nearly 500 years, with Jesuits currently working in 112 nations in a variety of apostolic ministries.

Saint Ignatius of Loyola (October 23, 1491 – July 31, 1556) founded the Society of Jesus, whose members are called Jesuits.

Pope Benedict XVI announced he will resign at end of month:

“I declare that I renounce the ministry of Bishop of Rome, Successor of Saint Peter, entrusted to me by the Cardinals on 19 April 2005, in such a way, that as from 28 February 2013, at 20:00 hours, the See of Rome, the See of Saint Peter, will be vacant and a Conclave to elect the new Supreme Pontiff will have to be convoked by those whose competence it is.”

Just as the Almighty on several occasions told various Israelites to ‘stack a pile of rocks at this location to remind your children of the wonderful things God has done for you’ (my paraphrase) – in other words, He instructed them to start a tradition – each beautiful thing, every ceremony, celebration, and word has significance, and meaning that is designed to remind us of His goodness and attributes.
