The Minnesota State Fair is just a few months away!
The MSF is the Granddaddy of ’em all. Not only is it one of the oldest state fairs – since 1859, the only years it missed were 1861, 1862, 1893, 1945 & 1946 – it’s also the most well-attended, and the land where it all occurs is quite large. In fact, it’s ginormous!
The good people in Texas claim theirs has the highest attendance, and I suppose if the Minnesota State Fair was TWO WEEKS LONG like the TSF is, it’d put the Lone Star State to shame. However, the MSF is a 12-day event, and for that time, it draws a bigger crowd than the TSF.

Minnesota State Fair – Thursday August 22 Labor Day, through Monday September 2, 2013
Apologies to those Longhorns.
I’ve been to the MSF once – just once – and, I’d like to go again.
Yes, I would. It’s HUGE!!
Of course, in all fairness – yes, it’s a bad pun, but hey! It works! – I’d also like to go to the Texas State Fair, as well.
I happened to see the menu for the “new” foods appearing this year at the 2013 Minnesota State Fair. It’s Read the rest of this entry »

Summary:More news from Yahoo on Monday: The company is revamping photo-sharing service
Flickr and is also opening a New York office.
Yahoo’s already had a busy Monday, what with that little $1.1 billion Tumblr acquisition, but the company had a few more announcements to make at a press conference Monday afternoon in New York. It’s revamping its photo-sharing service Flickr , which has largely been left to languish since Yahoo acquired it in 2005. “We want to make Flickr awesome again,” Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer said.
Flickr is getting three big updates. All users will get 1 terabyte of photo storage for free. The photo service’s interface is also being redesigned to Read the rest of this entry »

Examine the photo below, and the question posed in it.
And then, ponder my composed response below it.

Herman Cain, ever the GOP’s insane pizza presidential candidate, has yet again demonstrated his lunacy.
Naw… give ’em pizza!
But, on a slightly more serious note… that question is patently ludicrous and absurd upon it’s face. It’s akin to a Straw Man Fallacy.
Why?
Amidst a crowd of people, Read the rest of this entry »

The Humble Crockpot
The crockpot is a ‘set it and forget it’ cooking tool. In fact, when placed on the “high” setting, food is often cooked overnight, and ready the next morning.
Excess Food Consumption.
Big surprise, eh?
Yeah.
NOT!
Seriously, there is only ONE time-tested way to lose weight.
It has two, very simple steps.
They are:
1.) Eat Less, and;
2.) Exercise More.
Or if you prefer, Step #1 can also be considered a form of exercise – Push Aways.
Push Away from the table.
Now that we have the levity out of the way… let’s look at the news.
Some have promoted various forms of diet as an adjunct to weight loss. Many of the more successful models have revolved around variations upon a theme, that being increased protein intake in conjunction with decreased carbohydrate intake, also more popularly known as the “Atkins Diet.”
To give Dr. Atkins his due, Read the rest of this entry »

By now, if you’re not aware of Flickr… God help you!
All seriousness aside, of course, Flickr is – as they describe it – is “almost certainly the best online photo management and sharing application in the world.”

Image via CrunchBase
I agree.
While I am familiar with Google – it is so much more than a search engine – and their Picassa photo management service, I have chosen to stay with Flickr for several reasons… not the least of which is that I have found it more hospitable to the protection of photographers’ copyrights.
While it’s not a perfect tool (find one that is!), I have found it much better than Read the rest of this entry »

!*! – UPDATED – Tuesday, 27 April 2010, with aerial pics by Eric Shultz, Photographer, Huntsville Times – UPDATED – !*!
Saturday evening, April 24, 2010, around 9:30PM CST, a F3 category tornado twisted its way through the rural north Alabama community of Albertville, Alabama in Marshall County. Ironically, it was on the centennial-second anniversary of a 1908 tornado that devastated the town, nearly wiping it from the map.
Fortunately, though no lives were lost, there were about three dozen injuries reported, some severe, with one transported to another larger hospital facility out of the area.
Damage was severe, wreaking havoc and destruction in Albertville and the smaller, nearby community of Geraldine. Damage was so severe, that Albertville schools will be closed for this week, …Continue for pictures…UPDATED 27 April with aerial pics by Eric Shultz, Photographer, Huntsville Times…
