A surge in suicides in a small Alabama town and county has people talking.
With 7 suicides in less than two full months this year (2017), the rate is almost half what it was all last year (2016) – 15.
Unfortunately however, it seems for the greatest part, that’s all they’re doing… talking.
It’s the NIMBY problem in full bloom.
But as Christians, we are called to “bear one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ.”
When we not only pretend that these, or other human problems – including healthcare – don’t exist, or ignore any potential discussion or solution, we also deny Christ, who said Read the rest of this entry »

It’s no joke, Colorado is ROLLING (pun intended) in revenue from the taxes and licensing fees associated with legal cannabis sales.
From the Colorado Department of Revenue:
Colorado Marijuana Tax Data
“Total marijuana tax revenue includes the 2.9% retail and medical marijuana sales tax, 10% retail marijuana special sales tax, 15% marijuana excise tax, and retail/medical marijuana application and license fees.”
For the month of September 2015 (reported October 2015), Colorado had TOTAL (Total All Marijuana Taxes, Licenses) $11,656,736.
On an annualized basis, that’s at least $139,880,832.
The rhetorical question is:
What could Sweet Home do with even half the money like that?
Consider also this: That the legalization of cannabis also largely eliminates Read the rest of this entry »

Alabama State Senator Paul Bussman, DMD, is sponsoring SB234 in the 2015 Legislative Session, which would increase members of the Alabama Board of Nursing from 13, to 15.
Alabama State Senator Paul Bussman, DMD, a Republican from Cullman, is sponsoring SB234 which, among other things, would increase size of the Alabama Board of Nursing (ABN) from 13, to 15 members.
NOTE: Recent news suggests that the Substitute Bill would leave the ABN Board size unchanged at 13.
The ABN oversees 90,660 licensees, including Advanced Practice Nurses such as CRNAs (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists) and Family Nurse Practitioners (FNPs), Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs, sometimes also called Licensed Vocational Nurses, LVNs), and Nurse Aides/Assistants.
In stark comparison, the Board of Registered Nursing in the State of California manages 390,000 Registered Nurses exclusively.
California is also a “Walk-Through” state, which means that Read the rest of this entry »

Reverend Carl Ralph Nuss, Cullman, Alabama, has plead GUILTY to violating Federal Law – Servicemembers Civil Relief Act.
This is how he treats our troops?
I have nothing good to say about this, save that he plead guilty.
I hope the judge gives this criminal the maximum sentence.
And you know what else is REALLY sad?

Reverend Carl R. Nuss
Carl R. Nuss is a minister of the Gospel.
Apparently – and sadly so – he doesn’t know the Gospel too well.
Hopefully, this criminal and his criminal enterprise will soon be put out of business.

The reader should also be aware that the Republican stronghold of Cullman county was home to the nation’s longest running “dry” Oktoberfest, and the Ku Klux Klan. But perhaps in this case it should be the Ku Clucks Klan?

Defendants cry foul on definition of ‘animal’ in cockfighting trial
By Nancy Glasscock
MOULTON — Jury deliberation will continue today in the trial for five men facing charges in connection with the raid of a cockfighting operation in August 2011.
On trial are Joseph Lynn Holmes, 36, of Hanceville; Larry Dale McCroy, 53, of Hanceville; Zackary Clay McLeroy, 33, of Cullman; James Russell Garnett, 34, of Vinemont; and Grady Darrel McCroy, 54, of Cullman. All face charges of cruelty to animals and gambling on cockfighting.
Testimony began Tuesday and concluded with only one witness being called, Lawrence County Drug Task Force investigator Shannon Holland. Holland testified that through a confidential informant, he received information about a cockfight held at the edge of Bankhead National Forest at a residence off Lawrence County 81.
He said that, as an undercover investigator, he attended the event held in a barn Aug. 6 through Aug. 7. He said an admission charge was required to enter, and gamecocks fought in an octagon-shaped ring with bleachers and chairs on both sides. He testified he saw several dead and injured gamecocks and saw all the defendants handling the birds before or during fights.
The jury viewed video Holland captured on his cellphone of a cockfight and of injured birds.
But the defendants’ attorney, Mark Dutton of Moulton, said Read the rest of this entry »

For many years, Cullman, Alabama – a tiny town in Central North Alabama, founded by German immigrants in 1873 – had been “dry,” which is to say that there were no legal sales of beverage alcohol in the city.
In fact, the city had been dry for nearly half its existence, having experienced “wet” and dry periods aside even, from national Prohibition.
There had been various referendums in 2004, 2002, 1992, 1990, 1986 and 1984, with the closest vote in 1984, when alcohol sales were voted down by a mere 159 votes.
Cullman had also been the butt of national jokes & mockery because it had the only dry Oktoberfest in the United States. That all changed in 2011, and for the 30th celebration of Oktoberfest that year, celebrants were able to legally sell & enjoy the consumption of beer, wine & liquor.
What is particularly fascinating about this entire ordeal – local prohibition in small-town Alabama – is that it is representative of Read the rest of this entry »
