This is some of the first proven and confirmed evidence that what we have been told by the experts is 100% accurate and true.

“Typhoid Mary” Mallon (1869-1938), was an impoverished, illiterate Irish emigrant to the United States who worked primarily as a cook, and who became infamous for spreading typhoid fever, which at the time was an incurable, easily-spread, often deadly disease, for which no vaccination existed.
People who DO NOT KNOW THEY ARE INFECTED ARE SPREADING THE DISEASE BECAUSE THEY DO NOT HAVE SYMPTOMS.
It is a REPEAT of the classic example first shown by “Typhoid Mary” Mallon (1869-1938), an Irish emigrant to the United States who worked as a cook (one of the highest paying jobs at the time), and was actively infected with typhoid fever, yet NEVER – NOT EVEN ONCE – showed any signs of infection.
Tragically, however, as was common in the era in which she lived, she had low education and was practically illiterate, and her refusal to heed the advice of experts, and her insistence upon working in kitchens, resulted in the deaths of many people whom she thereby infected with typhoid fever because of her deliberately wanton disregard of advice, and disobedience to the order of law. She, however, claimed that she was being persecuted for being Irish and poor.
Her case was the first, and a prime example of the dangers of ignoring sound expert medical and scientific advice. As well, her case demonstrated the differences in attitudes toward public health between now, and then, because she filed lawsuits against the governmental authorities that detained her, and forbade her from either working, or being in public, and quarantined her. At the time, there was no vaccine against typhoid.

Q: Where did the idea for marijuana brownies come from?
A: From the highly-regarded “The Alice B. Toklas Cookbook” published in 1954.
“Toklas put in a section entitled ‘Recipes from Friends,’ and one of those friends was an artist – Brion Gysin, then living in North Africa, where he helped run a restaurant. He wrote Toklas a note with the recipe for a North African sweet, “Haschich (Gysin’s chosen spelling) Fudge” — mashed-up dried fruit with nuts and cannabis (despite the name, the recipe calls for cannabis rather than hashish) rolled with butter. [It was a] tasty morsel to accompany your mint tea that supposedly brings on gales of laughter.
“Toklas, in a rush, typed up the note verbatim from Gysin, slipped it into the manuscript and sent that off to the publisher without realizing cannabis, or hashish, was a controlled substance, much vilified in America.
“The book went to press in the U.K. and America. The U.K. first edition (now a collector’s item) had the recipe; the U.S. publisher (Harper & Brothers) caught and excised it. BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) – When an employee at Gino’s Restaurant in Baton Rouge cut into an eggplant Monday, he found “GOD.”
Chef Jermarcus Brady couldn’t believe what he was seeing. “I saw a miraculous image formed by the seeds,” said Jermarcus Brady. “It spelled out the word God!” Chef Brady has many responsibilities, one being cutting, salting and sauteing eggplants.

“When you sliced into it, the pattern showed from the seeds that were forming in the inside the letters G-O-D as God,” said Brady. “I couldn’t think of anything. I just had to tell somebody to come look at it.”
Brady showed the eggplant to the owner of the restaurant and fellow coworkers and took photos, but he believed it was meant to be shared with everyone.

Does Eat Place, Greenville, Mississippi, front door
Torn between numerous thoughts, I struggled with the headline, and opening paragraph.
The headline “Public Food Establishment Not Fit For Human Consumption” would be adequate, I suppose, but I really like this lead as a headline much better: “I feel like I should’ve eaten a cucumber sandwich.”
That was actually a SMS which I’d sent a good friend of mine, who had mentioned that earlier in the day, he purchased some cucumbers at a local Farmer’s Market, was pondering how to prepare them, and was considering preparing cucumber sandwiches. Naturally, I gave him a fair amount of good-natured ribbing over the matter (suggesting perhaps that he should consider joining a ladies tea party group) particularly given that he has a penchant for sausages & “fair food,” sometimes aka “carnival food.”

How did I feel after that decidedly “ungastronomic” experience?
A picture is worth a thousand words.
Here is but one.
Nevertheless…
Back to the Greenville, Mississippi fiasco.
It may be best to characterize the experience with a few terms:
• Clip Joint
• Nasty
• Filthy
• Overpriced
• Nickel and Dime
• Avoid at All Costs
Having read the reviews on UrbanSpoon.com, I was somewhat prepared – with strong emphasis upon the minimal aspect.

The Humble Crockpot
The crockpot is a ‘set it and forget it’ cooking tool. In fact, when placed on the “high” setting, food is often cooked overnight, and ready the next morning.
Excess Food Consumption.
Big surprise, eh?
Yeah.
NOT!
Seriously, there is only ONE time-tested way to lose weight.
It has two, very simple steps.
They are:
1.) Eat Less, and;
2.) Exercise More.
Or if you prefer, Step #1 can also be considered a form of exercise – Push Aways.
Push Away from the table.
Now that we have the levity out of the way… let’s look at the news.
Some have promoted various forms of diet as an adjunct to weight loss. Many of the more successful models have revolved around variations upon a theme, that being increased protein intake in conjunction with decreased carbohydrate intake, also more popularly known as the “Atkins Diet.”

I was overjoyed to learn recently of a Thanksgiving luau in Hawaii.

It’ll be on the island of Kauaʻi, which is the oldest, and most scenic of the Hawaiian islands. It’s also one of the more remote islands – though not as far as Midway – and with 90 miles of coastline containing 552 square miles, it is the last, largest island in the chain. Nearly 60,000 people call Kauai home, and it is the fourth largest island in the state.

For those uninitiated in the finer things of Southern culture, Barbecue is a staple Southern food.
In fact, it’s one of the primary food groups.

It’s right alongside beer.
Yep, there’s bread, also known as the “staff of life” more often, though, it’s cornbread; there’re vegetables, which include tomatoes, green beans, black-eyed peas, corn on the cob; liquid refreshments which include sweet tea, beer – and then… there’s barbecue.

A few weeks back, I enjoyed an outing with a neighbor, and we later returned to make
s’mores.
Honestly, the chocolately, marshmallow,
graham cracker cookie treat is a fairly new thing for me, having discovered them less than a year ago, when they were introduced to me by another friend who was ecstatically telling me about how delicious they were.
Not being a big fan of
marshmallows – I genuinely
don‘t like them in any form – I reluctantly tried them.
Okay… no big whoop.
I still don’t like s’mores.
BUT!
This young lady obviously does!

Hey… I thought “thinking outside the box” was the desirable outcome!
Now, we’re told we should get back in it.
The quote in the subject line is from Richard Heene, the Ft. Collins, CO man whom authorities are investigating for intentional fraud – suspecting the scare his little boy might have been aloft in a helium balloon and the resulting scramble of rescue resources, federal, state and local was deliberate.
In context, that’s what Mr. Heene told reporters camped outside his house.
And, I think the sheriff’s cooking legal spaghetti.
Why spaghetti?
Just like spaghetti, he’s gonna’ cook it just long enough, and then throw the charges… to see if it sticks to the wall, or in this case, Mr. Heene.
Of course, Mr. Heene will come out smelling like a Ponderosa Pine (not many roses grow in Colorado) because he’ll get a book deal, and a made-for-teevee-movie, will appear on numerous talk shows, and otherwise make the media rounds.
As I understand, Mr. Heene’s ideas for a “reality teevee show” have been rejected on more than one occasion. And, as is the “American way,” Mr. Heene is making his own “reality teevee show”… er, making his own “opportunity.”
And what a name for a balloon boy, eh?
