Who Pays Unskilled Labor US $80,000/year?!

Posted by Warm Southern Breeze on Sunday, June 22, 2014

“For Scripture says, “Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain,” and “The worker deserves his wages.”
-1Tim5:18

Lately, much has been made of raising the Minimum Wage, which does nothing more than establish a minimum standard.

But who cares about minimums?

We should strive to exceed!

Some well-known, publicly-traded, highly profitable firms, however, revel in greed, and wallow in the slop, when they can do far better for the employees who operate their businesses.

The question is often asked “why pay unskilled workers $10 or even more per hour?”

It’s a valid question, and deserves a genuinely thoughtful response.

So, let’s pose that question to BIG OIL COMPANIES in Williston, North Dakota, where…

“oilfield companies pay unskilled 19 year-olds $80,000 a year.”

Williston, North Dakota, has the nation’s highest rents. Thanks to the fracking boom, a basic apartment in Williston costs more than something similar in New York or San Francisco. And it comes with a lot fewer amenities.

For instance, shopping. If Walmart doesn’t have it, the nearest outlet is at least two hours away. Now, a Swiss investment firm has announced plans to Read the rest of this entry »

Baldwin County Alabama School Board to sue BP for tens of millions for Gulf Of Mexico Oil Disaster… because they need money.

Posted by Warm Southern Breeze on Thursday, January 17, 2013

Alabamians complain about those whom they assert are lazy, shiftless, good-for-nothings who refuse to make any effort to work for a living, and then, according to them, mooch off the public dole, or sue others to survive.

Alabama has a reputation as being a “tort reform Hell,” for the outlandish awards given by juries.

And yet, the state does the same thing. Not only is that ironic, what’s even more ironic about it all is that the Mobile/Baldwin county area is a Republican stronghole… er, stronghold. Rather than raise taxes, shift resources or lower costs to pay for public services, they sue. It’s fiscal mismanagement at it’s worst.

Can you smell the hypocrisy cooking?

BP receiving ‘significant 7-figure claim’ from Baldwin schools for Deepwater Horizon spill

BAY MINETTE, Alabama – The Baldwin County school board voted unanimously tonight to present a claim to BP asking for an undisclosed amount of money to make up for tax revenues lost as a result of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

Citing attorney-client privilege, school officials would not say how much money they are seeking.

But, said board attorney Scotty Lewis, “It will be a significant seven-figure claim.”

In its resolution, the board voted to Read the rest of this entry »

Out of sight, out of mind? Research Scientist finds Gulf of Mexico bottom dead

Posted by Warm Southern Breeze on Monday, February 21, 2011

BIG OIL companies – in this instance and most notably BP – are quick to “remind” their consuming public that they are the “good guys” that always wear white and that they our “knight in shining armor coming to your emotional rescue.”

However, having never been one to believe in conspiracy theory, or genuine collusion, yet in all honesty, one must acknowledge that BIG OIL has significant self interest called stock held by Wall Street shareholders. Those are the masters to whom they are loyal… NOT the American people.

Scientist finds Gulf bottom still oily, dead

By Seth Borenstein, AP Science Writer – Sat Feb 19, 8:53 pm ET

WASHINGTON – Oil from the BP spill remains stuck on the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico, according to a top scientist’s video and slides that she says demonstrate the oil isn’t degrading as hoped and has decimated life on parts of the sea floor.

That report is at odds with …Click HERE to read if we’re REALLY being deceived about this careless tragedy…

Feds sue BP, other companies for oil spill damages

Posted by Warm Southern Breeze on Thursday, December 16, 2010

Doubtless, some will find it curious that 1.) the federal government is suing BP, especially after BP has followed what has essentially amounted to federal direction to establish a $20 BILLION compensatory trust fund; and 2.) that many citizens in the affected Gulf Coast states have a political bent to them which has – to this point – expressed extreme discontent for attorneys and clients whom sue large Multinational Corporations (favoring MNCs), believing that some perceive MNCs as an easy “target,” because they have very deep pockets, and in some cases, are often willing to quickly settle than fight.

And yet, some pooh-pooh the oil disaster as a minor occurrence – as if a mere passing pimple on the vast arse of the ocean – asserting that “Nature will take care of everything. All the oil’s gone now. The Gulf is back to it’s original state now.” Yet like an iceberg, much of the oil lies below the water’s surface having been sunk by “dispersants” where it floats in suspension. The idea behind sinking the oils is “out of sight, out of mind.”

But life – human and animal, aquatic and terrestrial – is dependent upon oceanic life, and has continued despite the self-interested assertions that “all is well” on the aquatic frontier. The fact is, we don’t know “for a hard, cold fact” that all is well. We don’t know everything that has been done – good, bad, or indifferent. Though we do know that there have been some “faux pas,” and “strong-arm” tactics to quickly settle.

Why?

Isn’t avoidance of responsibility a hallmark of immaturity?

Alabama Governor Bob Riley and state Attorney General Troy King – Republicans whom have quite publicly been at odds with one another over other issues in the state – have Read the rest of this entry »

AL Gov. Bob Riley to BP: No lawsuit waiver on final oil spill claims

Posted by Warm Southern Breeze on Wednesday, December 15, 2010

Does it come as any surprise that the Multinational Corporation BP has no allegiance or loyalty to anyone or anything save their profit, executive compensation and shareholder payouts?

And yet – as astute observers note – politics makes strange bedfellows. Appointed by President Obama, Administrator Feinberg is being paid by BP in excess of $10 Million annually. But… would Democrats have expected this kind of “favor for the people” from their president?

(Reuters Legal) – There has never been anything quite like Kenneth Feinberg’s $20 billion Gulf Coast Claims Facility. Established to compensate victims of the BP Plc(BP.L) oil disaster, it essentially invests one man with full power over how the money is distributed, while he is being paid by the company and unsupervised by any government body.

Alabama Gov. Bob Riley has urged BP PLC and President Barack Obama to make sure that Gulf Coast residents don’t have to sign liability waivers to accept claims payments.

Oil spill claims czar Ken Feinberg recently launched the second stage of his claims process, in which he will offer people final settlements or interim quarterly payments.

The final settlements require the claimant to Read the rest of this entry »

“BP is in control of that.”

Posted by Warm Southern Breeze on Friday, June 25, 2010

In response to my 0845 phone call, Gov. Riley’s ofc called: AL NG “troops are to assist citizens on Gulf Coast that are having troubles filing claims w BP.

They are not helping clean-up.

Riley has “no plans to activate” AL NG troops, even knowing BP will foot the bill wholly.

His office did say however, that “All options are on the table.”

AL NG troops now assisting are “going door to door to get information” from residents to facilitate a “very complex claims process.”

Gov. Riley has “no plans to declare state of emergency, or disaster.”

Claiming that declaring a state of emergency or disaster “could cause conflict,” the governor’s office said, “BP is in control of that.”
