Apple App Store iPhone screenshot of Skype, by Microsoft, shows unavailable software when attempting to update Skype.
Microsoft announced two weeks ago that their Skype software division had produced a new version for iOS devices.
According to MSFT, the highly anticipated version 5.0 was supposed to be “remastered for iPhone,” and described as “the most refined version yet,” and was promised to be “faster, smoother, more integrated, smarter.”
Suddenly, to the dismay of many iOS device users, the Skype software was no longer available, and had pulled from the Apple App Store.
The solitary cryptic response Microsoft/Skype offered was “We are in the process of Read the rest of this entry »

Recently, I received an email message from a friend, one who is highly intelligent, and who has a phenomenal diversity of life experiences. The item had a video to a Faux News video segment, which is included in this post, at the conclusion.
My response to the half-truthed item follows.
Here’s hoping you and others find it informative, and helpful.

While I have neither been the type to proclaim THE SKY IS FALLING! THE SKY IS FALLING! nor believe there is conspiracy against me, nor the paranoid type that imagines “the government” is out to get me (and therefore neither view nor read Fox News), I do think there is some credence to the item. (Of course, a “Snopes check” shows a mix of half-truths. But, if it ain’t all true, it ain’t true – kinda’ like the gas, you know.) More details on that follow.
In a story published published Saturday, February 1st, 2014, the Chattanooga Times-Free Press wrote how some motorists in that area are preferring 100% pure gasoline over the 10% Ethanol blend. (I happened to read that story at the time it was published.)
http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/2014/feb/01/some-motorists-want-their-gasoline-corn-free/
While residing there, I also noticed the same, and noticed that the price for 100% pure gasoline is higher than for the 10% ethanol blend. One day, while pumping the 100% gasoline at a Chattanooga gas station, I happened to speak with a gent at the adjacent pump about the difference. He shared an observation with me which I thought quite interesting, and one which certainly seemed reasonable.
He said that in an “accidental” experiment, he purchased some 10% ethanol blended gasoline for use in his lawn mower. He then poured some of the 10% ethanol blended gas into a glass jar, and let it set out at least overnight (or a bit longer). He observed that it had become cloudy from the accumulation of humidity.
While I’ve never tried such an experiment, I do note that many years ago, on occasion, I would run my little carbureted Toyota’s gas tank empty, and would then fill it up with 1 gallon each of Methanol, 100LL, Toluene, Xylene and Methyl Ethyl Ketone. I did so for at least two reasons: 1.) to get any water in the fuel tank & system out, and; 2.) to “clean out” any deposits that may have formed in the fuel system.
Of course, Gasoline and Water are different for several reasons, not the least of which is that Read the rest of this entry »

iOProblems, iOBrother!
I’m a die-hard, long-time, Apple Macintosh only computer user. End of conversation. Period.
However, that hasn’t and doesn’t prevent me, or anyone else, from criticizing Apple products.
I use the iPhone 3GS model, with iOS 3.1.3 – jailbroken and unlocked – and …Continue…

By most accounts – including my own – WordPress 2.6 for the iOS is an abysmal failure. While this blog entry (http://ios.wordpress.org/2010/09/29/introducing-version-2-6/) lauds many “new and improved” features, reports from the users’ community – as read on the Apple app store – are anything but complimentary, and instead reveal a miasmatic cornucopia of problems, not the least of which is “crashing,” the unexpected and sudden failure if the app. Equally concerning among the complainants is the perception that …Continue…

For the untold numbers of iPhone users whom even occasionally use the WordPress blogging app, I have ONE suggestion: STAY AWAY from the UPDATE to version 2.6!
Having been a faithful customer of Apple, and of the iPhone, I am experiencing increasing discontent with what I perceive to be very careless, lackadaisical, even malicious failures of developers to be attuned to the iOS and issues of compatibility, or even operation! It’s akin to going to a restaurant, ordering a two eggs omelette, and having the raw ingredients dumped in your lap by the cook. Meanwhile, the hotty-totty waitress smiles and coos, asking if you’d like a refill on your coffee.
“Sure, hon… can I have a hot fresh cup poured in my lap?”
The text of my report to the developer follows: Read the rest of this entry »

Perhaps the story of the iPhone could appear as a feature on the teevee show “Modern Marvels.”
My tenor is somewhat sarcastic, for as I am writing, my iPhone is, and for very nearly the past month, has been nothing more than a chic lovely paperweight.
I have a 32GB iPhone 3G[S] which I purchased at a “race horse” price – $150. It was refurbished. It had not even one scratch on it, and was brand-spanking, shiny new when I peeled the protective plastic off the screen.
In short order, I unlocked and jailbroke the 3.1.2 OS phone using blackra1n, which is a free/no-cost tethered jailbreak – meaning it must be attached to the computer during the process. The baseband is 5.11.07.
To clarify, “unlock” refers to …Continue…
