Nashville, TN Conservative Talk Radio Host Phil Valentine Hospitalized With COVID-19

Posted by Warm Southern Breeze on Friday, July 23, 2021

Earlier, a friend had notified me that Phil Valentine, a Nashville, TN-based WASP Republican talk radio show host, affectionately known as “Uncle Phil” by listeners, is hospitalized with an infection of COVID-19.

Oh!

The irony!

He certainly fits the typical anti-COVID-19 vaxxer profile:
• Southern
• White
• Republican
• Conservative
• Male

The last FaceBook update from him was February 5, 2020, which consisted of a link to a podcast entitled “I’m Calling Bovine Scatology,” which is a “polite” way of saying “bullshit,” and the episode posted was entitled “They Closed Down the Economy for the Spanish Flu?

Business Insider picked up the story and wrote in part that, “A conservative radio talk-show host who had told followers that they were “probably safer not getting” the COVID-19 vaccine if they weren’t at high risk is now hospitalized in serious condition with the coronavirus, his family said.

“Phil Valentine, who hosts “The Phil Valentine Show” on WWTN-FM in Nashville, Tennessee, contracted COVID-19 more than a week ago and “has since been hospitalized & is in very serious condition,” his family said in a statement on Thursday.”

All Access Music Group of Malibu, California wrote on their website that, “Posts by his family on social media confirm that CUMULUS News-Talk WWTN (SUPER TALK 99.7 WTN)/NASHVILLE afternoon host PHIL VALENTINE is in the hospital “fighting for his life” after contracting COVID-19.

“VALENTINE had voiced skepticism about the COVID-19 vaccine on the air and opposed government efforts urging the public to get vaccinated, touting Vitamin D; he initially posted on JULY 11th that he had contracted COVID but “unfortunately for the haters out there, it looks like I’m going to make it.””

Here, on SoundCloud, Phil rants about why he’s not making plans to obtain any COVID-19 vaccine, and oddly, talks about the AstraZeneca vaccine — which is NOT available in the United States — and how some European nations are withdrawing their support for that particular version of the vaccine, which again, is NOT approved for use in the United States.

WKRN wrote on their site July 22, 2021 that, “Valentine, who hosts The Phil Valentine Show on Nashville’s SuperTalk 99.7 WTN, confirmed July 11 on his Facebook page that he had tested positive for COVID. He spoke about his battle with the virus on his radio show. “I think I’m on the other side of it,” Valentine said of the virus, as he described coughing, congestion, and fatigue that “hurts like crap.” He added, “I’m certainly moving forward, it appears, but not in a straight line… It’s just one of those things. I don’t want it to linger on.” Valentine had previously expressed his disagreement with mask mandates, stating that hospitals were never in danger of being overwhelmed by COVID-19 patients. He has also been critical of the virus vaccines, voicing his concerns over their safety.”

NBC News picked up the story and in part wrote that, “A conservative radio host in Tennessee who expressed skepticism about Covid-19 vaccines and was unvaccinated is hospitalized in critical care with the disease, his station announced Friday.

“Phil Valentine, who hosts a show bearing his name on WWTN-FM in Nashville, contracted the coronavirus a little more than a week ago and is battling pneumonia, his family said in a statement posted on Twitter.

“Earlier this week, his brother, Mark Valentine, posted on Facebook: “Many of you know that my brother Phil is in the hospital with Covid related pneumonia. He is fighting for his life, which has persuaded me to go get vaccinated when I was previously not inclined to do so.”

The Tweet was posted by SuperTalk radio station 99.7 WTN.

Radio Online wrote in part that, “Cumulus Media’s WWTN-FM (99.7 SuperTalk)/Nashville veteran talk host Phil Valentine has been hospitalized in very serious condition with COVID-19 and pneumonia after testing positive on July 11.”

Tennessee Daily News was the first to state the location of his hospitalization by writing that, “Conservative talk radio show host Phil Valentine stays in hospital with COVID-19 at Williamson Medical Center just outside Nashville. He was diagnosed with COVID-19 on July 9, and it got worse as he had to be hospitalized over the weekend.

“Williamson County Medical Center confirmed his stay late Tuesday to Scoop: Nashville after many listeners noticed his absence on television but his current condition was not publicly available. He is not believed to have received the vaccine, and he often discussed it on his conservative talk radio show on Nashville’s WWTN. This is a developing story.”

Williamson Medical Center in Williamson County, is in Franklin, TN, which is slightly south of Nashville. Among all counties in the United States, Williamson is among the wealthiest, and most-highly educated. For example, the U.S Census Bureau states that for the period 2015-2019:

• 95.3% of all Williamson County, TN residents aged 25+ are High school graduates or higher (U.S. average 88)

• 59.8% have a Bachelor’s degree, or higher (U.S. average 32.1)

• 93.4% of all Households have a broadband Internet subscription (U.S. average 82.7)

• 96.4% of all Households have a computer (U.S. average 90.3)

• 80.6% reside in owner-occupied housing (U.S. average 64.0)

• 88.2% are White alone (U.S. average 76.3)

• 4.5% under age 65 have a disability (U.S. average 8.6)

• 6.3% are without Health insurance (U.S. average 9.5)

• $112,962 is the median Household income in 2019 dollars (U.S. average $62,843)

• $52,702 is the per capita income past 12 months in 2019 dollars (U.S. average $34,103)

So, by the numbers alone, it’s easy to see that Williamson County, TN is a predominately White, upper-crust, enclave.

People magazine wrote that, “Conservative radio talk show host Phil Valentine has been hospitalized with COVID-19, and has since changed his stance on the vaccine.

“The Tennessee native has said on multiple occasions that although he is not an anti-vaxxer, he did not want to get the COVID-19 one because he considered himself low risk.

“But on Thursday, Phil’s brother Mark Valentine said in a statement that his sibling has a new view.

Conservative radio host Phil Valentine Regrets Being His Vaccine Stance, Now Fighting COVID in Hospital

“”Phil contracted the COVID virus a little over a week ago & has since been hospitalized & is in very serious condition, suffering from COVID Pneumonia and the attendant side effects,” Mark said. “He is in the hospital in the critical care unit breathing with assistance but is NOT on a ventilator.”

“”First of all, [Phil]’s regretful that he wasn’t a more vocal advocate of the vaccination,” Mark said. “For those listening, I know if he were able to tell you this, he would tell you, ‘Go get vaccinated. Quit worrying about the politics. Quit worrying about all the conspiracy theories.'”

“He explained the radio host is experiencing a “nonlinear recovery,” which he said is “a medical term for a roller coaster ride and that’s kind of what we’ve been on.””
