Cancun Cruz: It’s Show Time!

Posted by Warm Southern Breeze on Tuesday, March 23, 2021

Ted “Cancun” Cruz is a goddamn fucking moron.

Nobody likes him.

Nobody in the Senate.

Few in Texas.

Even fewer nationally.

Wouldn’t it be ironic tragedy if he was shot?

Somehow, being shot seems to change people’s minds about firearms laws.

It changed people’s minds after POTUS JFK was assassinated.

It changed racist White Supremacist Alabama Governor George Wallace’s mind.

It changed POTUS Ronald Reagan’s mind.

It changed Reagan’s Press Secretary James and his wife Sarah Brady’s minds.

It changed Arizona U.S. Representative Gabby Gifford and her husband Mark Kelly’s minds.

It changed Louisiana U.S. Representative Steve Scalise’s mind.

It changed peoples’ minds in El Paso.

It changed peoples’ minds in Parkland, Florida’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. (Sadly, there’s a list of school shootings maintained here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_school_shootings_in_the_United_States)

It’s amazing how little pieces of lead have power to change people’s minds.

I wonder why?

Of course, none of that applies to Alabama’s 5th District Moron Brooks.

Cruz Accuses Democrats Of Playing “Ridiculous Theater” In Proposals Following Mass Shootings

Texas Senator Cancun Cruz (R) on Tuesday accused Democrats of playing “ridiculous theater” by proposing universal background checks and other reforms following mass shootings, which he claimed would take “away guns from law-abiding citizens.”

Cancun Cruz made his remarks during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on gun violence that had been scheduled before of the deadly mass shootings at massage parlors in the Atlanta, Georgia area last week and at a Boulder, Colorado, grocery store Monday evening.

Cancun Cruz said that Congress should be working to prevent guns from getting into the hands of criminals instead of targeting firearms. “Every time there’s a shooting, we play this ridiculous theater where this committee gets together and proposes a bunch of laws that would do nothing to stop these murders.”

He then responded to remarks by Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), who said that “thoughts and prayers are all we have heard from my colleagues on the other side” after mass shootings, rather than specific policy proposals to address gun violence. “The senator from Connecticut knows that is false, and he knows that’s false, because Senator [Chuck] Grassley [R-IA] and I together introduced legislation … targeted at violent criminals, targeted at felons, targeted at fugitives, targeted at those with serious mental disease to stop them from getting firearms and put them in prison when they try to illegally buy guns.”

The Grassley-Cruz amendment, known as the Protecting Communities and Preserving the Second Amendment Act, was first proposed in 2013 and reintroduced in 2019, and would require agencies to submit accurate records to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) in order to prevent people with criminal backgrounds from obtaining firearms.

Today, Cancun Cruz said, “What happens in this committee after every mass shooting is Democrats propose taking away guns from law-abiding citizens, because that’s their political objective. But what they propose, not only does it not reduce crime, it makes it worse.”

Democrats on the committee sought additional restrictions on firearms, and California Senator Dianne Feinstein (D) pointed to the Boulder shooting in which 10 people were killed, including an officer responding to the attack, in calling for a ban on assault weapons.

Later in the day, Cancun Cruz was the butt of scrutiny after he left the hearing to appear in a television interview with Fox News’s Harris Faulkner, who instead of questioning Cancun Cruz on the gun violence hearing or the recent mass shootings, asked the Banana Republican Senator to comment about Vice President Harris recent laughter in response to a reporter’s question.

Meanwhile the gun violence hearing is ongoing. So Cruz peaced out of the hearing so he could do a Fox News hit.
