Wash Avocados?

I’m way ahead of the power curve on that one.
I’ve been washing almost EVERYTHING with a wee bit of soap, water, and common unscented household bleach for a very long time. And I mean EVERYTHING. Including mushrooms.
Blueberries? Yup. Cherries? Yup. Strawberries? Yup. Melons? Yup. Grapes? ESPECIALLY! And yes, that includes avocados.
Frankly, you should wash EVERYTHING that you eat – fruits, vegetables… EVERYTHING. Except maybe bananas, oranges (citrus), onions, and garlic.
BUT!
If you plan to CUT FROM THE OUTSIDE IN… WASH IT ALL with a bit of soap, water, and a dash of unscented, common household bleach.
Seriously.
Think about the folks in grocery stores who don’t wash their hands after peeing or pooping and who’ve handled all that food before you purchased it. Think about the rats, roaches, mice and spiders that crawled all around on it and pooped or peed on it. And the flies.
Now you gonna’ wash that stuff?
It’s just plain ol’ good common sense.
Here’s the FDA’s warning:
Microbiological Surveillance Sampling: FY14-16 Whole Fresh Avocados
