Jeff Sessions Should Resign

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions should resign his office. President Donald Trump does not like, trust, or respect him.

Sessions reportedly offered to resign two weeks ago amid Trump’s growing frustration over the Attorney General’s decision to recuse himself from the Justice Department’s investigation into ties between the Trump Campaign and Russia. Trump has blamed Sessions for the appointment of a special counsel in the investigation and all of the adverse developments that have emanated from this decision.

On Monday, Trump publicly criticized the Justice Department’s “watered down” revision of the Travel Ban that is currently on appeal before the U.S. Supreme Court. This criticism was aimed directly at Sessions even though Trump had personally reviewed and signed the “watered down” Travel Ban.

Trump’s public and private humiliation of Sessions has damaged the relationship between the two men beyond repair. Adding insult to injury, Trump berates Sessions in private and then talks negatively about him behind his back.

Sessions, who was the first member of the U.S. Senate to publicly endorse the candidacy of Donald Trump, has learned first-hand that Trump expects loyalty from every presidential appointee, even though he is loyal to none.

Trump has a long and ugly record of betraying the very individuals who have trusted him the most. This list includes former wives, business partners, bankers and other creditors who were left holding worthless debt in Trump’s six corporate bankruptcy proceedings, students who were defrauded by Trump University, politicians who blindly carried his dirty political water, presidential campaign advisers, business and political consultants, ex-military generals and war heroes, national spy agency chiefs, a former FBI director, competent and long-serving U.S. attorneys, press secretaries and spokespersons, and a host of others who have come in and out of Trump’s life.

Sessions did not give Trump prior notice that he was recusing himself from the Russian probe. This action infuriated Trump.

Tonight, the White House is refusing to say whether Trump has confidence in Sessions as Attorney General. No matter what the White House says and does going forward, it is clear that Donald Trump is done with Jeff Sessions. This political marriage is over.

This is why Sessions should resign and end Trump’s very public humiliation of him.
