Right Wing Political Religious Zealots

If Right Wing Religious Zealots get total political control, we could have this here in Gilead… er, the good ‘ol USA!

Indonesian men caned for gay sex in Aceh

Two men have been caned 83 times each in the Indonesian province of Aceh after being caught having sex. The men stood on stage in white gowns praying while a team of hooded men lashed their backs with a cane. The pair, aged 20 and 23, were found in bed together by vigilantes who entered their private accommodation in March. They have not been identified. Gay sex is not illegal in most of Indonesia but it is in Aceh, the only province which exercises Islamic law. It is the first time gay men have been caned under Sharia law in the province. The punishment was delivered outside a mosque in the provincial capital of Banda Aceh.

In what alternate reality world does one exist when government ensconces in law a so-called “right” to deny:
• Equal Treatment Under Law
• Health Care Services
• Commerce and Trade
• Adoption rights
to those with Same Sex Attraction?

Gays and others STILL face workplace discrimination, including discrimination in basic state services, courtesy of Right Wing Zealots, which in the USA are the Christian equivalent of the Islamic Taliban.

Folks in Sweet Home Alabama, and other states – notable among them, Kentucky & Missouri – still refuse to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples.

For example, Alabama does NOT:
• Prohibit housing discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

• Prohibit employment discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

• Have a law that addresses hate or bias crimes based on sexual orientation only – even after Billy Jack Gaither‘s February 1999 death in Sylacauga, shortly after Matthew Shepard‘s 1998 death in Ft. Collins, CO.

• Prohibit discrimination in public accommodations based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

• Have a law that addresses harassment and/or bullying of students based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

• Have a law that addresses discrimination against students based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

• Has neither a ban on insurance exclusions for transgender healthcare nor does it provide transgender-inclusive health benefits to state employees.

• Have laws or policies that facilitate gender marker change on driver’s licenses or birth certificates.

Most recently, Alabama’s GOP-dominated, bigoted and hate-mongering legislature passed H.B. 24, (AL HB24-2017) which Governess Kay Ivey signed into law, a deliberately deceptively named law as the “Child Placing Agency Inclusion Act,” which enshrines discrimination into Alabama law by allowing some state-licensed adoption and foster care agencies to reject qualified prospective LGBTQ adoptive or foster parents based on “activity that conflicts with the religious beliefs of the agency.” An amendment was added in the Senate and agreed to by the House that limits that discriminatory exemption to agencies that do not receive state or federal funding.

However, H.B. 24 allows state-licensed child-placing agencies to disregard the best interest of children, and reject qualified Alabamians seeking to care for a child in need – including LGBTQ couples, interfaith couples, single parents, married couples in which one prospective parent has previously been divorced, or other parents to whom the agency has a religious objection.

Roy Moore is Alabama’s Point Man for Religious Zealots’ bigotry and hatred in used-to-be Sweet Home.

At the national level, former Senator-turned Attorney (the Enforcer) General Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III is the nation’s persecutor… er, prosecutor against the LGBT community – because “all animals are equal, but some are more equal than others.”

All those events – and more – are right here in the good ‘ol USA.

Ol’ buddy, I love you, and appreciate you, but you’re dead wrong on this one.
