Grocery Shopping & more Grocery Shopping: A Quick Price Comparison – @Publix v @Kroger

Posted by Warm Southern Breeze on Tuesday, October 20, 2015

As a general rule, I don’t shop at Publix because the prices are higher.

Until now, that’d been only a casual observation.

I had never formally price checked… until now.

Recently, I decided to purchase some groceries at Publix only because the store was conveniently along my route.

My preference continues to be for Kroger.

The 11 items purchased at Publix were:

1 – 1 pound extra sharp cheddar cheese
1 – 3 pound bag sweet onions
1 – cauliflower head

1 – gallon whole milk
1 – 1.5 dozen (18) Large eggs
1 – spring salad mix (store brand)

1 – bag baby spinach
1 – bag grapes white seedless
1 – bag Romaine hearts

1 – bag spring salad mix (store brand)
1 – eye of round beef roast

Grocery Item Publix Kroger
Extra sharp Cheddar cheese (store brand)/lb $6.29 $3.99
3 pound bag sweet onions $3.99  -not available-
5 pound bag sweet onions  -not available- $3.99
cauliflower head $3.49 $3.79
whole milk, gallon $2.49 $2.00
spinach, baby $2.79 $2.49
grapes, white seedless/lb $2.49 $1.99
Romaine hearts $3.99 $2.99
spring salad mix $2.50 $2.50
eye of round beef roast/lb $4.99 $5.99
eggs, Large, 18 $3.45 $3.39
TOTAL $36.47 $33.12

I didn’t know Kroger was in the south (Publix I know well because one of my cousins was a manager there), but here up north Kroger is big-time (we have so many of them here in suburbia). I’ve always been partial to them…
