I think this article speaks volumes to how I feel about Gardisil. While I immunized my children and I get a flu shot every year, I’m leery of many of the new drugs that are introduced by drug companies whose sole focus is how much money they can make. Companies like Merck don’t always have the public good in mind, and the FDA doesn’t do enough.

Hi Cyndia – thanks for reading, and for sharing your thoughts! As you suggest, there is a great problem with avarice – unbridled greed, or greed “gone wild” – that permeates healthcare, particularly Big Pharma. It wasn’t always that way, and in fact, one of medicine’s most renown and highly respected physician/researchers – Jonas Salk, renown for inventing the polio vaccine – when interviewed by Edward R. Murrow, and asked if he was going to patent the medicine to profit privately from it, responded by saying, “There is no patent. Could you patent the sun?” It is precisely that attitude, and that spirit which is sorely absent today. It’s important to bear in mind, however, that profit – in and of itself – is not an evil thing. Yet it is extreme greed – avarice – that despoils dignity from medicine. Thanks again!

  2. Thanks for this important post. You have important information here, and I was also draw in by the poignant writing and personal point-of-view. I have enjoyed many other postings here – I found your blog by way of Tim Lennox.

Hi Charles! Thank you so very much for your kind words, and encouragement. I confess, that of late, I’ve not been very active on Tim’s blog as I have been. Hopefully, that will begin to change in the few days ahead. Here’s hoping you and yours are headed toward a happy holiday season! Cheers, and “God Bless Us, Everyone!”
