Newt Gingrich: One good idea

Here is one idea I think Newt Gingrich has spot-on.
Acknowledging history – as Newt certainly does – he must realize that he is fighting an uphill battle by campaigning to become president.
Why?
He realizes that James K. Polk is the ONLY man to ever have been Speaker of the House who has become President.
Understanding that, Newt did have – IMO – a good idea:
“What they ought to do is, scrap the committee right now, recognize it’s a dumb idea, go back to regular legislative business, assign every subcommittee the task of finding savings, do it out in the open through regular legislative order, and get rid of the secret phony business.”
Bear this in mind: Having one good idea does not mean one will become president.
I remain convinced – based upon several historical signs which have been repeated – that President Obama will be re-elected in 2012.

Hi Cheryl! I understand – believe you me, I do – your sense of frustration and angst. However, may I hasten to point out that while the president is the nation’s chief executive, he does not run this ship of state by himself? The Congress – this ship of state’s crew – runs the operation, even amidst or despite, the captain’s leadership. If nothing is done, it’s not wholly the president’s fault, Congress must bear their fair share – which is significant in proportion. The most recent debacle of the Republicans to fail to lower payroll taxes upon hard-working families and Americans is a slap in the face to those whom it would benefit the most – the average American.
At this point, may I recommend reading the entry entitled “Tom Coburn: End welfare for the wealthy“? Republican Oklahoma Senator Dr. Tom Coburn, MD has listed numerous tax breaks that benefit only the wealthy. By applying a means-testing algorithm to determine whether or not the individual claiming need actually does need help, there are billions that could be saved. As well, there is another entry about a welfare fraud/cheat which may interest you. The entry entitled “Multimilionaire draws welfare check, disability and food stamps” may also interest you.
Continuing, recall the three governmental branches – 1.) Legislative (Congress); 2. Executive (Presidential), and; 3.) Judicial (Federal & Supreme Court). To give the president his due, there have been some good things that have originated from the White House, while there have been other that have been a source of ongoing frustration – among them, the lack of a coherent jobs bill, which bills originate in the Congress. While it may be beyond the scope of this type venue to discuss in detail the benefits or detriment of any bills (which originate in Congress) – though I think such a venue as this is perfectly suited for detailed discussion – I look forward to your reply!
One final point in conclusion: Would you agree that for Health Insurance Companies to deny children benefit coverage for problems they’ve had since birth – such as congenital cardiac (heart) problems, spina bifida, diabetes, or any other such problem they were born with – is inherently wrong, misguided or even evil? Would you agree that it is good, right and just to require HICs to spend the majority portion of the premiums – which you pay – upon care, rather than upon executive compensation, overhead expenses and stockholder payout? Would you also agree that it is good to REQUIRE Health Insurance Companies to cover them and to make it ILLEGAL for those same Health Insurance Companies to deny coverage to them simply because those children were born with a health problem?
If you agree that is is bad for Health Insurance Companies to deny coverage to children born with health problems, then you might be interested to know that such a requirement is but one component of so-called Obamacare, which is nothing more than reform to Health Insurance laws to correct the injustices of non-payment for procedures based upon an inadvertently omitted item, which also forbids HICs from dropping your coverage once you become sick, and denying payments for breast cancer surgery.
