News behind the news: Wheelchair-bound lingerie-clad YouTube airport sensation lost dental license

YouTube sensation Dr. Tammy Banovac, D.D.S., a 52yo retired dental surgeon from Phoenix, AZ became a hit on the Internet video site YouTube recently by appearing at the Will Rogers Airport in Oklahoma City, OK attired only in bra and panties. Video of her was recorded by two airport passengers and posted.

In the longer, original video made by John Maringouin, a San Francisco filmmaker, Dr. Banovac, who is originally from Oklahoma, appears seated in a wheelchair, wearing only a matching black bra and panty set, with a small white dog resting upon her lap, while she waits in a “non-secure” TSA (Transportation Security Agency) screening area. According to Mr. Maringouin, Dr. Banovac first appeared wearing a coat, and later removed it, revealing her scantily clad figure. She refused to go through the X-ray machine, which made her subject to a “enhanced pat-down,” in which the breasts and genitals of passengers are groped with the back of a TSA employee’s hand.

Another video, made by a parent of young passenger who happened to be flying alone for the first time, happened to show Dr. Banovac in the later part of the video, quite by accident.

News of the incident has continued to make various news outlets, including NewsOK (a website of The Oklahoman newspaper), KOTV ch6 television news in Tulsa, CBS news, and more.

Dr. Banovac has been banned from flying… not for what you’d suspect, but because – according to Dr. Banovac, “The stated reason was there was… they were unable to clear an unusual contour of my buttocks area.”

TSA silliness aside…

What some don’t know is that Dr. Banovac posed for Playboy in 1997. She owns a trucking company in Hennessey, OK. And, she had her license to practice dentistry in Arizona revoked in 1993 – when at the time, she was known as Dr. Tammy L. Brewer.

The State of Arizona Board of Dental Examiners found that she was “guilty of negligence which does rise to the level of unprofessional conduct under A.R.S. 32-1263(1) and gross malpractice under A.R.S. 32-1201(18(d)) by her failure to appreciate the requirements of a medically compromised patient… failure to obtain informed parental consent and/or appreciate the severity of… medical risks and need for referral to a qualified practitioner; and failure to refer… to a practitioner better suited to deal with… serious risks and medical needs.” (ref. Board Order, Complaint No. 92149, page8)
