OpenSecrets.org examines Fox News Corps Million Dollar Donation

Many people are raising a ruckus over the revelations of Fox News parent company NewsCorp, whose business collaboration with Arab Muslim business interests have ties to Republican politicians; and Fox News commentarians/spin doctors/opinion makers have simultaneously recently negatively criticized efforts to construct a mosque at or near “Ground Zero,” the former location of New York City’s World Trade Center.

The ostensible tie-in, which I believe is a rational one, is that the commingling of money reveals not only a lack of respect, but raises legitimate questions about loyalties and the integrity and purpose of relationships.

Even further complicating matters is the over-riding issue of integrity… honesty, by any other name.

When our nation’s communication laws were gutted – I refer specifically to what was colloquially termed the FCC “Ownership Rules” – any semblance of of ethics and integrity brought about by it was effectively eliminated. The ‘long and short of it’ is that the LOVE of money is the root of all evil. Not profit making, not having money, but the inordinate and excessive LOVE of an inanimate object.

Lovers will do whatever it takes to get more of the object of their love. But they will not hurt someone… UNLESS the object of their affection is a inanimate object – something that by its very nature, CANNOT return affection – such as money.

The Beatles were right.

I don’t care too much for money, ’cause money can’t buy me love.

Fox and NewsCorp are NOT the only ones. http://www.opensecrets.org/news/2010/08/news-corps-million-dollar-donation.html.

The parent companies of six major media outlets have all donated anywhere from five to seven figures to political organizations during the 2010 election cycle alone, according to an analysis by the Center for Responsive Politics.
