American Medical Association, AARP OKs Obama Health Reform Bill

Saying “We cannot let the perfect be the enemy of the good,” J. James Rohack, MD, President of the American Medical Association, reiterated organizational support last Friday for the Affordable Health Care for America Act (H.R. 3962/H.R. 3961), which is often referred to as President Obama’s healthcare overhaul bill.
Dr. Rohack said the AMA Board of Trustees voted unanimous approval after reviewing the House of Representatives’ reconciliation bill, added that the bill wasn’t perfect saying, “This is certainly not the bill we would have written.” [ed. note: Nothing in this world is perfect.]
Joining Dr. Rohack, senior staff and board certified cardiologist at Scott & White Clinic in Temple, Texas, whom became the 164th president of the American Medical Association (AMA) in June 2009, was the non-partisan, 40 Million member strong, American Association of Retired Persons.
The Scott & White Clinic is a 636-bed not-for-profit, Level I trauma center and teaching hospital, which also operates a 50-bed Long Term Acute Care hospital, and a 150-bed Acute Care hospital in addition to a 75-bed Acute Care facility, and more than 50 Primary, Specialty and Urgent Care Clinics throughout Texas.
The Scott & White Clinic has consistently been ranked among the top 100 U.S. Hospitals for six consecutive years, and operates the Scott & White Health Plan, a not-for-profit healthcare delivery system, which is available only in Texas.

what you have failed to mention is that only a small percentage of physicians in this country are active members of the AMA

While the AMA keeps their membership numbers close to their chest, no organization has any membership which agrees 100% with everything, if I’m understanding the impetus of your remark. However, suffice it to say also that a minority of eligible voters cast ballots in elections for which they’re qualified. Thus, the minority rule the majority. Apparently, the majority doesn’t mind! *LOL* I recollect a joke based upon a truism – Once, when asked about what the nation’s two greatest problems were, a respondent said, “1.) I don’t know, and 2.) I don’t care,” to which the interviewer said, “that’s right! Ignorance and apathy are the two greatest problems.”
And yet, it would seem that the 40 Million member-strong AARP is a force to be reckoned with.
