Posted by Warm Southern Breeze on Wednesday, February 24, 2010

“I’m deeply sorry.”

– Toyota Motor Corporation President & Chief Executive Officer Akio Toyoda

Akio Toyoda, grandson of Toyota founder Kiichiro Toyoda, apologized personally and repeatedly throughout his testimony before the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., February 24, 2010 concerning the auto maker’s car safety.

I sincerely regret that some people actually encountered accidents in their vehicles. My name is on every car. You have my personal commitment that Toyota will work vigorously and unceasingly to restore the trust of our customers.

Edolphus Towns, House Committee Chairman welcomed Mr. Toyoda and thanked him for his testimony, saying, “We’re very impressed with that. It shows your commitment to safety as well.”

COMMENTARY: Toyota will remain the world’s largest automobile maker, and will be propelled to even greater heights because of CEO Toyoda’s humility, apology and acceptance of responsibility for his company’s actions.
